For their first concert in this year’s festival Thomas Hull and the Academy orchestra are joined by rising star Elizabeth Watts. After winning the 2006 Thomas HullKathleen Ferrier Prize Elizabeth gained international recognition at the 2007 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition, winning the Rosenblatt Recital Prize and was selected for BBC Radio 3’s New Generation Artists Scheme.

 

She will sing three arias and Benjamin Britten’s Les Illuminations, settings of poems by Arthur Rimbaud. Although often performed by a tenor this great work was originally written for soprano Sophie Wyss.  

 

The concert closes with one of Mozart’s finest and best loved symphonies.
