Tonight sees the first appearance in Chipping Campden of the sensational young tenor Toby Spence. As well as establishing a growing reputation on the opera stage, on the concert platform Toby has sung with the Cleveland Orchestra under Christoph von Dohnanyi, the Berlin Philharmonic under Sir Simon Rattle, the San Francisco Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas and London Symphony Orchestra under Sir Colin Davis. He has also appeared at the Salzburg and Edinburgh Festivals. He is joined by the pianist Julian Milford, an outstanding player who has worked with many of the UKs finest singers.
... the tenor Toby Spence radiated a relaxed poise. His vocalism was impressive, the rich sweetness and the legato line close to ideal for Finzis rapturous declamation.
