ROBERT COHEN CELLO Candlelit concert
The unaccompanied cello suites of J.S.Bach

Robert Cohen, cello |
Robert made his Royal Festival Hall debut at the age of 12 and subsequently achieved international recognition whilst still a teenager with a recording of the Elgar Cello Concerto which earned a silver disc and placed him at the forefront of his musical generation. His impressive discography also includes solo Bach and an outstanding recording of the Schubert Quintet with the Amadeus quartet. In 2007 he played three of the Bach suites for us and now returns for the marathon all six suites in one evening. This is an enormous undertaking for the performer and also demands a not inconsiderable commitment from the audience but this evening of unaccompanied Bach (surely the Everest of the cello repertoire) in the wonderful candlelit setting of St. James should be a truly uplifting and spiritual experience. With two intervals the concert will finish at around 11.15pm.
